Creamy Mashed Potatoes

Writer: Bon VivantBon Vivant

Mashed potato or mashed potatoes, colloquially known as mash, is a dish prepared by mashing boiled potatoes. Milk, butter, salt, and pepper are frequently used in the preparation. The dish is usually a side dish to meat or vegetables.

Prep time: 25 mins Cook time: 20 mins  Total time: 45 mins

INGREDIENTS :

Potatoes (peeled and diced) 500 gms

Butter  1/2 cup

Milk   3/4 cup

Sour cream 2 tbsp

Parsley (finely chopped) 2 tbsp

Salt to taste

Pepper powder to taste

PREPARATION :

Add potatoes to a medium pot filled with water and salt making sure all potatoes are covered. Bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer until potatoes are fork-tender, this would take about 20 minutes.

Drain potatoes, making sure to get rid of all excess moisture (VERY IMPORTANT!)

I like to let them drain for a few minutes in the colander.

While potatoes are still hot, mash them with a masher / wooden spatula, then pass the mashed potatoes through a sieve (it is a tedious process but trust me, you would thank me later for the yummy texture😉) and keep it aside.

Now heat a non-stick pan, add the butter ( save some for garnishing), now add milk to the butter. Before the butter melts entirely add the mashed potatoes, season it with salt and pepper, start mixing the potatoes. Cook the potatoes till it comes together and forms a huge lump and that's the sign it's perfectly cooked. Add the chopped parsley and sour cream to it, mix it thoroughly.

Your creamy mashed potatoes are ready to serve😊
